Christmas. Present. Madness.
That’s what it feels like for me every year.
What to get? How much to spend? Should I buy collectibles? Buy them just what they want or something I would rather they have? Would their friends enjoy it when they come for playdates?
So many questions!
I do actually like buying presents for my children. Seeing the look of joy and surprise on their faces always makes me so excited. I try to get them one thing they want and one present that is a bit more thoughtful. Something to engage their brains and encourage creative play and problem solving. As a result I try not to spend too much on their presents as they each tend to get two from us each.
So for me Smart Christmas Presents are the way to go. Here are the presents I will be focusing on (or would love to get if space allowed in my home!) that encourage exploration, creation and fun! And most importantly won’t break the bank!
Smart Christmas Presents for Kids
Hydraulic Robot Arm
I bought this for my sons birthday a couple of weeks ago and he absolutely loves it. He’s been itching to put it together but his slightly jealous dad insists they do it together as a father and son project over the next couple of weeks. Presents that can be done with a parent or fellow sibling are great bonding moments for everyone involved. Ages 10+
Build Your Own V8 Car engine Kit
If I was only going to buy one present (and had a large enough garage!) this would be the present I would buy for my ten year old boy. He’s taken a real interest lately in cars, he even tried to make his own version of the Lego Bughatti car and something like this could encourage him to take things a bit further beyond the world of Lego. I think Lego has done wonders for his imagination, but we’re drowning in it now especially with his little sister now getting her own bits and peices. Ages 10+
Lego Power Functions Light
Having said that! A couple of extra pieces wouldn’t hurt right? These lights will hopefully open up even more creative possibilities for him! Ages 5+
My daughter has been asking for roller skates for ages, and I finally feel like she will be able to handle them. These ones are her favourite colour too. Now just to make sure she is padded as well as the Michelin Man… Ages 6+
The two in particular that my kids enjoy are The Week Junior (mainly for my oldest) but also Science and Nature which both of my children thoroughly enjoy! I could go with Blocks or Lego Friends but as I mentioned before, I’m not going to feed the Lego addiction…Ages 8+
Make your Own Pop Up Book
I’m loving the look of this book for my little artists. I’m tempted to even buy more than one! Ages 3+
ELC fishing Rod Set
This is so adorable but also helps young children with their fine motor skills. Ages 2+
This would be great for my oldest two! Being children who have family members all around the world it would be a wonderful way to see how the world is connected…literally! Ages 7+
So these are the presents I will be eyeing up over the next couple of days during Black Friday in preparation for Christmas. What smart presents will you be buying for your children?
